The six-part film series ‚Beyond the War‘ is curated by Amer Katbeh and will feature documentary movies from and on Syria followed by discussions with guests. Here, different issues related to Syrian society and politics before and after 2011 (start of uprising) will be highlighted, like foundation of Syrian society, political system and participation, religion and secularism, the Kurdish issue and women rights.

The film features how the city of Kobani became a city of ghosts after it was almost completely destroyed, and how some of its people decided to return to search for their memories despite the warning of specialists that the city is uninhabitable. The film highlights also the participation of women in combat, as Kobani is a tribal area with a special social structure.

ضمن عرض 6 أفلام وثائقية من سوريا أو حولها – يتبعها نقاش مفتوح مع عدد من الضيوف، سيتم تلسيط الضوء على مواضيع مختلفة عن المجتمع والسياسة في سوريا قبل وبعد 2011 (بداية الانتفاضة). من ضمن هذه المواضيع: نشأة المجتمع السوري، النظام السياسي وفرص المشاركة، دور الدين ومسألة العلمانية، المسألة الكردية وحقوق النساء في سوريا.

يتحدث الفيلم عن تحول مدينة كوباني إلى مدينة للأشباح بعد أن تم تدميرها بنسبة كبيرة، وعن الأهالي الذين قرروا العودة إليها للتفتيش عن ذكرياتهم على الرغم من تحذير الاختصاصيين من أن المدينة مكان غير صالح للسكن. كما يسلط الفيلم الضوء على مشاركة المرأة في المعارك، خصوصاً أن كوباني هي منطقة عشائرية ذات بنية اجتماعية خاصة.

عرض للفيلم يتبعه نقاش مع المخرج شيرفان قاسم.
