Alaa Zouiten begann im Alter von sieben Jahren seine musikalische Erziehung in Youssoufia, bevor er am Conservatoire National de Marrakech seine Ausbildung genoss, die ihn zum Meister an der Oud (arabische Laute) machte. 2008 begann Alaa in Marokko seine Karriere und spielte auf zahlreichen marokkanischen Festivals (u.a Essaouira Gnaoua Festival, Grand Festival de Casablanca, Mawazine in Rabat).

2015 gewinnt er ein Stipendium des Arab Fund for Arts and Culture und arbeitet in Deutschland an seinem zweiten Album „Talking Oud“. In diesem Album experimentiert er mit den stilistischen, technischen und ästhetischen Möglichkeiten der Oud.

Das Resultat ist ein faszinierender Mix aus arabischem, andalusischen Jazz und Rock. In seinen Kompositionen und Arrangements benutzt Alaa Zouiten die unendliche Vielfalt in Zeit und Raum. Ein kreativer Prozess, welcher ständig nach neuen musikalischen Perspektiven sucht und die Schönheit der Musik feiert.

Alaa Zouiten is an Oud player and composer born in Casablanca (Morocco). In 2013 he released his first album “Hada makan” with his band “Alaa Zouiten Ensemble” and kicked off a tour in Germany.

In 2015 he received a grant from the Arab Fund for Arts and Culture to record his second album “Talking oud”. In this album, Alaa continues to push back the technical and aesthetic limits of the Oud in a style between Arabic, Andalusian, jazz and rock music.

His musical fusion without prejudices does not claim any hierarchical order of musical styles. Through his compositions and arrangements, Alaa uses the infinity of musical diversity in time and space. It is, therefore, a pure artistic creative process with a tendency to continually propose new musical perspectives to celebrate the beauty of music itself.
